My apartment

Its pretty nice, great location, right in the centre of all of the action! =)

Meeting people

Its true, people really are very friendly here.  Almost everyone I walk past says hello, I phoned the pharmacy today and after I said who I was was she said "welcome!".  My funny story of today was a cab driver I had (cab's cost $6, anywhere you want to go).  He has only been in Iqaluit 3 weeks and is actually waiting for a job with the federal government but is driving a cab until he gets hired.  Good on him.  That's motivation to be up here if you are willing to drive a cab until something else comes up!

First Day

I arrived in Iqaluit and immediately remembered what winter feels like!  Cold!  After dropping off my luggage at my apartment I went straight to work and had the afternoon to orient myself.  My first trip to the North Mart after work for a few groceries was funny!  I had been warned that food was super expensive, but its humorous to see just how much.
A woman on my flight was bringing a pumpkin home with her and I overheard her say to the flight attendant that pumpkins were $40 here.  Its true!  In the last two days I have bought about 8 grocery items and spent about $80.  Some of my biggest splurges: OJ for $8.49, spaghetti sauce for $5.49.  4L of milk is $14.  I think you just get used to it but it makes buying groceries very entertaining.  How much more will things cost!  I will try and take some pictures in the store one day.
